Founded by experts with extensive experience with decision-making structures in family businesses, family investments, legacy assets - such as family vacation property, and non-profit family enterprises - such as private foundations.

Meet David

David Burleigh takes an inter-disciplinary approach to the world of family enterprise governance and succession. He helps multi-generational families, especially where there are a large number of children, to create and use decision-making structures that fit them. He deals with operating companies, family investment entities, family legacy assets, private foundations, and other such entities that depend on decision-making among family members to function effectively.

Though he is not a professional mediator, he is highly regarded for having a mediative effect on tense family situations. David entered the field of family enterprise advising after a number of years in the private client legal area. During that time he created a consulting business in the area of private foundations and charitable giving.

Before Family Enterprise Office, David worked with Amelia Renkert-Thomas under a large, international family business and family office consultancy. His articles have appeared in Trusts & Estates and Estate Planning magazines. David holds a B.A. from DePauw University, an M.A. from the University of Dallas, and a J.D. from the University of Cincinnati.

Meet Amelia

Amelia works with families of all shapes and sizes, from entrepreneurs coping with the consequences of liquidity events to large multi-generational families with highly sophisticated business and investment structures.

She helps families to design tailored governance structures, create more effective board structures, form and govern family offices, set up shareholder councils, and make trusts more functional.

Amelia is the former president of Ironrock, Inc., her family’s fifth generation manufacturing business headquartered in northern Ohio, and she is the granddaughter of the founder of Fisher Price Toys.

She is quoted regularly in The Wall Street Journal and other business and financial publications and was recently interviewed for the Gordon Deal radio show. Her 2015 book, 'Engaged Ownership: A Guide for Owners of Family Businesses' has been called "the missing piece of the puzzle” for family businesses. Amelia holds a B.A. from Yale, a J.D. from Harvard, and an LL.M. from Case Western Reserve University.
